Why would you wait to have them learn this life saving skill?

Drowning is the number one cause of accidental death for children ages 4 and under.
In March 2019 the American Academy of Pediatricians lowered their recommended age for swim lessons from 4 years to 1 year olds.  This change was influenced by a mother who lost her 3 year old son to drowning last summer; because she was waiting for him to turn 4 years old before enrolling him in swim lessons.

What is survival swim lessons?

While no one can ever be considered “drown-proof” these private lessons teach children a continuous swim-float-swim and safely exit the water. The Survival Swim method can take as little as 6 weeks (24 lessons) to complete.

Facts about puddle jumpers and flotation devices.

It is always important to use lifejackets when boating, but these flotation devices should not be used for play time in the pool.  These cause children to maintain a vertical body posture and give a false sense that they can “swim”.  This initial learned posture is the same posturing for drowning.  Read more here.
